There are several lighting positions that photographers have developed over the years. People like George Hurrell, who used tungsten to shoot stars, used these lighting positions. Learn to identify what a butterfly or Rembrandt light is. Knowing these positions, and where the light placed to create them, will help you see how photographers light their images. These are departure points from which you will create your own look and direction. Its hard to depart from someplace you have never been there. This will teach you the basics and give you a good foundation to build on. This video is not as slick as some of the others we have done but it has great basic instructions on portrait lighting. (Don’t miss the ending its the most exciting part!)

Links to reviews of all the quipment can be found here dombowerphoto.blogspot.com Well i cant fit it all in my camera bag as i think i need a bigger bag. What you will find though is a lot of second hand equipment My second hand gear consists of NIkon D700 20mm f2.8 28-75mm f2.8 105mm f2.8 85mm f1.4 70-200mm vr1 2 refurbished sb900 The new equipment i have bought has been 1 nikon sb800 and 1 sb900 50mm f1.4 10.5mm fisheye fuji s5pro nikon d300 (not in video) Canon 550d (not in video) but used to record the video Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 (also not in video) used for recording the video You will notice that none of my lenses are slower than f2.8 and yet a lot of them are very cheap lenses. Photography can be as expensive as you want it to be but if you hunt around you can get a lot of money off of quality equipment. The 70-200 buying that second hand saved me nearly £600! I usually get my second hand equipment from people that i meet or via adverts on free advert sites such as gumtree. but i always inspect the equipment before i hand over the money. If you enjoy myvideos please post them on your facebook page and let others know about this channel, please subscribe and share on facebook and twitter. Also check out the links below. If you really like my work please feel free to check out or buy a copy of the my photography book: Getting There With Photography: By Dom Bower www.blurb.com Twitter page twitter.com Facebook page www.facebook.com Website www.dombower.com T-shirt page …

froknowsphoto.com In this 5 Min Portrait video I use the most basic of camera equipment. I use the Nikon D3100 with the 18-55 VR Kit Lens. If you have a Nikon DSLR from the last few years from the D3000, D5000, D5100, D7000 and up this video will show you you can get great images with anything. The same holds true if you have any Canon DSLRs from the T1i, T2i, T3i and 60d Be sure to check out the other 5 min portrait videos.
Video Rating: 4 / 5
